Yang Xiao Long Post-Timeskip No-stretch Boot Cover Worklog / Tutorial

I'm back again with another boot cover DIY tutorial and this has been my favorite so far out of all the boot covers I've made because I've incorporated a lot of stuff I learned from my previous boot covers and the result exceeded my expectations. There were a couple of fitting problems and wayward stitches along the way but that was just me being sloppy due to con crunch lol.

So, yeah. This is part two of my Yang Xiao Long post-timeskip worklog series.

(Part 1 | Complete Worklog)

Materials:
  • Fabric
    • I basically just used two colors of non-stretch fabric here. Leather types would probably be well-suited for this and you wouldn't need to interface but my sewing machine wouldn't be able to handle it so I had to improvise. Work with whatever is easier for you.
    • Don't forget to have enough to include the lining
  • Interfacing (if you're using a normal fabric like i do)
  • 2 Metal zippers
    • For the zipper detail on the front... or if you can find exactly huge ones like those from the reference.
  • 2 hidden zippers (can at least reach from ankle to calf length)
  • Metal rings
    • At least 1" in radius
  • A pair of heeled, close-toed shoe for the base
    • I find making boot covers on a pair of high-heeled shoes easier because of the wider shin-feet angle
  • Cling wrap
  • Masking/Duct tape
  • Pattern paper

Yang Xiao Long Post-Timeskip Prosthetic Arm Prop Worklog / Tutorial

This is my first time making a prosthetic type of prop in cosplay so the entire process is a little bit of a trial and error for me. There are a lot of things I could have changed to make it better but I am still very pleased with how it turned out.

This will be the start of my Yang Xiao Long Post-Timeskip cosplay worklog series. I'll be posting the entire costume worklog soon.

(Part 2 | Complete Worklog)

I also did Yang's first version cosplay. You can check out my complete worklog here.

Materials:
  • Pattern paper (or any paper you can use to draw patterns)
  • Form-fitting gloves (or you can make one yourself with a black stretch fabric)
  • Cling wrap
  • Masking/Duct tape
  • 2mm Rubber Sheet/Craft foam (we mostly call it rubber sheets here so I'm going with that term)
  • Super Glue
  • Crack filler/Sealant
  • Primer (I used wood glue mixed with water in 1:1/8 glue-water ratio)
  • Spray Paint (or whatever you prefer)
    • Metallic Gray (I know I used black here which was a mistake. I didn't double check my references when I went buying for materials)
    • Yellow
  • Velcro
  • 0.5 cm elastic garter

JJBA Yukako Yamagishi Seifuku Worklog/Tutorial

Wrapping up my last cosplay of 2017 with something simple, Yukako Yamagishi from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable.

There should be a lot of seifuku tutorials out there in the internet and I feel like there's a general conventional method in making it but I had a hard time following some of the tutorials I found online. I did find one really helpful seifuku tutorial that served as my starting point. However, it wasn't entirely complete so I used a basic bodice and sleeve tutorial as the main guide. You should really watch those videos first if you want to go through with this tutorial.

Hoshizora Rin Little Devil Ver. Complete Cosplay Worklog

Left: Photo by Chloe | Right: Photo by H&S Studio Co.

Finally! The fourth and final part of my Little Devil Rin cosplay project. Oh boy, this costume has been the most time-consuming and detailed project I've done so far I don't even know where to start so I apologize for posting this way behind my planned scheduled. I had a hard time mapping out the structure on how this entire post should go.

When I first decided to make this project, I'm actually at a loss on how I'm going to put them together. It didn't help that there were only one official reference photo and not enough cosplay shots.

But I had fun experimenting new techniques, tinkering details and adding a few personal touches based on how I interpreted the entire thing. I'm quite proud with how this project turned out.

Hoshizora Rin Little Devil DIY Prop tutorial

I finally finished the remaining piece of my Little Devil cosplay which has been pretty arduous considering my lack of fancy tools but it has been a fulfilling experience and I learned new techniques. Full worklog of the cosplay will be up as soon as I get decent full body shot of the completed costume.

This is the third part of my Hoshizora Rin Little Devil ver. cosplay project. For the complete worklog, you can check out this post.

Materials:
  • Rubber sheet / craft foam
  • 1m pvc pipe
  • thin cardboard
  • pink non stretch fabric
  • A fake rose & leaves (at least three)
  • beads & string
  • plastic folder (you won't be needing much)
  • black, red, pink & gold paint
  • wood/white glue
  • super glue/contact cement
  • hot glue
  • crack filler (should dry hard and can be sanded down)
  • paint brush

Hoshizora Rin Little Devil Wings DIY Tutorial

It took me three tries to finally make it look like how I envisioned it. It's not exactly big but it still takes up quite space so I wanted to make it travel/storage easy by making it in pieces that can be put together and apart when not in use.

This is the second part of my Hoshizora Rin Little Devil ver. cosplay project. For the complete worklog, you can check out this post.

Materials:
  • 2mm Rubber sheet/ craft foam
  • Thin wire
  • Masking tape
  • Black & Pink (wasn't available so I had to mix red & white in equal parts) paint
  • Elastics (preferably black. Unfortunately I used white because I ran out because of too many mistakes)
  • Fabric (color & type is up to you as long as it's not stretchy)
  • Thick & sturdy cardboard
  • Snap buttons
  • Velcro
  • Feather lace (optional)
  • Tissue

Tools:
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
  • Hot glue, Super Glue (or any strong adhesive), Plain white glue (for priming)
  • Thread & needle
  • Pattern paper (or any paper to sketch the pattern)
  • Sandpaper

Asami Sato Default Outfit Worklog / Tutorial

Check out more photos of this cosplay here

First of all, I made a big mistake of sewing the buttons on the wrong side. I looked at the reference photo and forgot to consider that it was a mirror image. I didn't have enough time and resources to do the entire thing again so I just pushed forward. With that in mind, here's my Asami Sato cosplay worklog and hopefully none would make the same mistake as I did if ever anyone decided to follow through with this. *kicks self*

Yang Xiao Long - RWBY Cosplay Worklog

This has been long overdue. I've been meaning to post this earlier but I've been pretty distracted with a lot of stuff. Yang has been the most complicated costume I've made so far with it's many pieces and intricate design. I had to learn a lot of new skills along the way but it had been quite a learning journey and I feel really achieved being able to complete this project.

Non-stretch boot cover tutorial / worklog

Another boot cover for my Yang Xiao Long Cosplay. I actually intended to buy a pair from a bargain shop but I couldn't find anything close and cheap enough so it's time for another DIY project.

Materials:
  • a pair of non-wedge, heeled shoes(non heeled shoes will work as well but this tutorial will be working on a heeled one)
  • socks
  • non-stretch fabric
  • interfacing
  • 2 separating zippers
  • snap buttons(the one where you can sew in)

Ember Celica RWBY prop cosplay tutorial

First of all, my reference was this post. However, I only have limited resources available so I'll be using an entirely different set of materials and had to improvise along the way. Still, I'm quite happy with how they turned out so here goes...

Main materials:
  • rubber sheet (half a yard should be enough but make room for possible mistakes) - they're about 0.5cm thick
  • spray paint (yellow of course)
  • white/silver paint (acrylic/poster will do)
  • empty thread spools (min. of six)
  • red fabric(prefferably stretchable but non-stretch is alright as long as it's soft and thin)
Tools:
  • super glue
  • hot glue (optional)
  • cutter & scissors
  • unused newspapers/empty garbage bags
  • black sharpie (or paint whatever you fancy)

KK - Kekkai Sensen - Cosplay Worklog

photo and post-processing by Mike Sabido

Costume breakdown of the very first cosplay I finished this year. Biggest outfit I made to date and despite a handful of mistakes, I'm happy how good they turned out. No decent photos yet but might schedule a photoshoot sometime this year as soon as i find the time to do revisions on some parts of this costume.
[UPDATE 08/10/16]: Wore the outfit for the second time and finally had some nice shots.

So many tutorials on various eyepatches out there but here's how I made mine for my K.K.(Kekkai Sensen) cosplay.

Stretch Boot Cover with Removable Shoe Tutorial

There are tons of tutorials out there for various types of boot covers but here's the way I made mine. It's a combination of what I've learned from online tutorials and some I've adapted on my own from years of trials, mistakes, financial conditions and time constraints.

I've made several mistakes in the past by just gluing the shoe within the cover because it was the easiest way. However, I didn't have the luxury of buying new pairs(or even pre-loved ones) every time I make a new one so in this tutorial, I made a pair where you can easily just slip off/insert the shoes so that you can still use them for other stuff. It makes for easier cleaning too.

Lace-Up Boot Cover Tutorial

Buying a new pair of lace-up boots just for cosplay is pricey and impractical(i don't exactly wear boots on average days) for a thrift cosplayer like me. I did consider looking into thrift stores and second-hand shops but none had lace-up boots for my Setsuka Heel cosplay so I had no other choice but to make one myself. I already had most of the raw materials lying around so the total cost in making them didn't exceed 100Php.

It was tedious and nerve-wrecking since it was my first time and I couldn't find any guide/tutorials close enough to what I wanted to do so I had to plan everything from scratch. But despite much groping in the dark, they turned up quite alright so for those who are looking into spending less and willing to slave away precious nights for it, hopefully this tutorial will provide you at least with ideas in crafting similar-type projects.

Hoshizora Rin Love Live No Brand Girls Cosplay Breakdown and Progress Shots

Not exactly a complete tutorial but made a costume breakdown of my recent Love Live cosplay. I'm still a complete amateur when it comes to the sewing department so most of them are a result of multiple trial and errors but hopefully it will inspire ideas for other cosplayers who are thinking of cosplaying the same character or something similar.

Death Parade: Chavvot Book Cover

For my Chiyuki cosplay, I wanted to add the Chavvot book as part of my costume set. However, after hours of searching through google and even going as far as rewatching the entire series, I couldn't find a straight front image of the book cover.
