Hi, How Are You?

It's been a long time since I've last updated this page. I'm still here but I took quite a life beating and I had a heard time trying to get back on track with all of the stuff that's been happening for the past three years.

Nigatsu Cosplay Café 2018 Happenings & Random Shenanigans

I am running late on my updates. It's been hectic recently that I realized I haven't updated this page for a quite a while. I have three consecutive cosplay projects lined up two of which are already in the works and over halfway done so hopefully this page will be running on tutorials and worklogs again soon.

Iinchou at Ai Expo 2017 Day 2

Second day of Ai Expo and I finally have the opportunity to debut my devil!Rin cosplay that I've been working on for a really long time.

It's quite an eventful day. My friends and I started out early so I ended up wearing my costume for more than seven hours. It was the longest time I've ever worn a cosplay to date and I'm surprised that nothing fell apart or got broken despite the many pieces of my costume and the con crowd I had to squeeze through. I even brought super glue, fabric glue, some threads and a needle because the costume really looks delicate but I'm happy I didn't have the need to use them.

Hello Brrr-months & Life Updates

We're only about four months away to 2018 (let that sink in) and I haven't even gone halfway through my cosplay list. There hasn't been any conventions here lately so my motivation's been down in the dumps. I have a lot of ideas to write for this blog all piled up but my brain seems to be refusing to cooperate..

I'm just drifting along the flow right now but I'm still trying to stay right on track. Even though I've been pretty slow and behind schedule, I make sure I'm still making progress.

Why Do You Cosplay?

I have asked myself this question before when I first established this blog back in 2015. It was suppose to be my starting post but I can never seem to put them into words properly. A year or so later and the question popped up again while I was scrolling through my timeline. I grew up a bit since then and I was able to finally write how I really feel about it.

Nigatsu Cosplay Café 2017 Files; Mini Blog

I'm thirsty af.

Recently, I've been busy with my Hoshizora Rin Little Devil cosplay project that I was planning on wearing at a Cosplay Cafe event hosted by a university organization which I'm also a part of. Although I'm already an alumni, I still love being involved with the org and helping my kohais.

New Year, Late Updates: Thoughts & 2017 Projects

2016 Cosplays

I've been so wrapped up with the holiday season and cuddle weather that I've gotten pretty late with my 2017 cosplay updates. Last year has been chaotic... and colorful.

Cosplay have always been my outlet so I always make sure to keep this hobby alive no matter how much I struggle for it (it keeps my state of mind peaceful and balanced). Given my circumstances, it's not always easy but thankfully, I once again managed to pull through and learned a lot of things along the way. My costume-making skills definitely upped a level and I'm excited to find out what more I can do this year.

I also finally laid out my cosplay plans for 2017. It's going to be even more challenging but I'm looking forward to get my hands working. My Rin is already in progress and Emerald is due for June. The rest will depend on time and financial resources. Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to what I can accomplish this year.

Good vibes, good vibes, :)

2016 (Late) Life Updates

It's been pretty mellow lately. With the end of the year approaching, I just want to take everything easy. I have two more cosplays I wanted to finish but with the pace I'm going at now, i think i'll only be able to finish one of them but hopefully I'll be able to write a worklog of it before this month ends.

Although it's been pretty laid back recently, I'm happy with a lot of changes that occurred for the past year that made me even more motivated to pursue this hobby. I'm excited to make more costumes but for now, some personal updates...

My worst con-crunch experience ever

We've all been there.
Times where we've pushed ourselves to extreme limits just to finish our costumes on time but is it really worth to jeopardize our health over a hobby?

Leaving Mundania... take me back cosplay yesteryears

"As much as I bitch and stitch, I'm still enjoying all of it... the whole process. And it's gratifying to be able to present to people a piece of art to a community of people who can appreciate it for its artistic value... who understand and still have fun... and love it because it's kitschy... and ginchy and it's made from liquid metal gold sequinned fabric that nobody except figure skaters wear."

Late Bandwagon Hopping; Afterthoughts

Bandwagon's long gone away but I just want to leave a few words of my own.

Same cosplay, three years apart. If there's one thing I finally managed to gather from those year difference is that don't sell yourself short just for the sake of what people will think. By the end of the day, none of it will matter if you had fun.

Setsuka Heel is portrayed as someone who is mysterious but also a strong, sexy and confident woman and a failed to let those characteristics show through in the first photo because I've been so busy being conscious of what other people might think:
"Am I being to sexy?"
"Please don't let this photo look to sensuous or people might get the wrong idea."
"What if they thought I'm doing this for attention?"

It's stressful and prevents you from having fun.

Try not to think too much about it. I learned to channel all my insecurities into going all out in my cosplays and keeping myself better. Focus on the positive and whatever keeps you happy and all those negativities will gradually fade. It will not be easy and it will certainly take time...heck, it took me a long while! But as long as you had the will to take that first step, then you're already getting there.

Happy cosplay! :)

Why I lost my enthusiasm in sharing my hobby to non-cosplay communities

This was one of the things I've been trying so hard to forget for the past four years now and I've been making great progress. However, something showed up while i was browsing through my timehop recently. Thinking about it doesn't bother me much anymore but it still feels quite unpleasant sometimes just remembering so might as well let it all out before completely letting go.

Motivation Post for 2016

Came in very late but figured I wanted to let out some cosplay sentiments before starting out the new year with new cosplays.

Cosplay and Adulthood

source: hiwamu | tumblr

I've started cosplaying about four years ago. I was just a college student back then. Being reliant on my parents financially, I didn't have much freedom to cosplay as often as I do now. I didn't want them to burden with additional expenses so I had to find other ways to afford the hobby. That's when I decided to apply as a student assistant in a university dorm, squeezing additional hours despite the busy academic schedule.

I am now an adult with a steady paying job. Between paying bills, supporting my brother's college expenses, keeping up with my social life and affording basic necessities, I still somehow manage to keep my hobby strong. Without academics to worry about, I can finally take my time to improve my costuming skills. I can now sew my own costumes, make props and go to cons as much as I can.

Seems like an age of bliss, right?
